Rebecca Kaplan started studying sculpture in 1984 at Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. She then studied art as an undergraduate at SUNY Purchase. She lived in Europe from 1995 to 2005. While there she participated as an artist at international sand expositions held in Belgium, Germany and Holland- her first work in large scale sculptures (see the gallery photos entitled The Papparazzi, The Sleeping Chief and The Fairy on Lotus Flower).

After returning to the states in 2005, she participated in welding the large scale metal piece "The Passage" (more popularily known as the Mother /Child piece). Originally exhibited at Burning Man in 2005, it has since been on public display on Embarcadero and Mission in Fisherman's warf in San Fransisco. She then served as a major artist in the construction of "Leaping Giants" - three 40 foot welded metal figures in different positions of international prayer exhibited at the 2006 Burning Man event (she created two of the three heads of these praying figures). This piece was featured in the September 2006 edition of The New York Times.

Rebecca has more recently created large form metal heads incorporating her fascination with Buddhism. In the summer of 2007 one of her Buddha heads was invited to be on display at Harmony festival in Santa Rosa, CA. The other one was exhibited at this summer's Burning Man event, and is now on temporary display at the Soma Creativity Center in San Francisco.

The current focus of her work is the use of geometry and symetry to incorporate and illuminate nature's innate mathmatical design and spirituality. She is particuiarly fascinated with using wire frame to capture negative space as it defines "the unknown".
